Reading: Environmental Print
Kids are working on their reading skills long before they learn letter sounds and sight words. Environmental print is everywhere and children are "reading" the symbols and print all the time. I love to use environmental print for the pre- readers in my classroom.
5 Ways to Learn and Play with Environmental Print
1. Create a matching activity or book (free activity included as a link in this post!)
2. Sort by beginning letter sounds
3. Create puzzles from brand name food packages (also a great way to involve parents- ask them to send in empty packages from their child's favorite foods)
4. Play I spy ( "I spy a word that starts with T.")
5. Play a movement game by posting environmental print around the room and having students move to the word (you can call out the word, provide a clue such as the first letter, hold up a matching card, etc.)
How do you use environmental print with your children or students?

Hello!
This blog is a place to share ideas, activities, and free resources for parents and teachers! As a special education teacher I know how much time educators put into finding and creating resources, so I will post printable documents that I have created, along with a variety of things related to teaching, special education, and parenting. Stop by often to find new resources!
